The major theme is the relationship between reality and illusion of life: Professor Otto Marvuglia ago "disappear" during a magic show of the wife of Calogero Spelta to enable it to run away with her lover, and then does believe that her husband will find her only if open with total confidence in the fidelity of the box in which she claimed to be locked up.
