On October 23rd, the anniversary of the date in which Giuseppe Garibaldi and his wife Anita (heavily pregnant) passed through Todi during the campaign to unify Italy, there will be a reading by Isabella Martelli entitled “Anita Garibaldi tra storia e romanzo. Una donna e la leggenda che ne ha fatto un personaggio”, in the frescoed hall of the City of Todi art gallery. The reading will revolve around an unusual artefact that is still on display in Todi - a particularly broad saddle made specially for Anita by a local craftsman to ease the woman's discomfort during the long hours of marching alongside her husband.
