Gubbio (PG) - Gubbio (Pg). Under the patronage of the Comune di Gubbio, the Centro della Gioventù will be reviving the ancient local custom known as "Segamo la Vecchia", which is thought to have been imported as long ago as the Viking invasions of the Italian peninsula. The custom is intended to mark the end of winter and the arrival of spring, and involves baking a large bread or cake in the shape of an old woman that is then taken into the woods and literally sawn in two when it is rediscovered.
Similar traditions in fact exist in Northern European countries. The event will take place on March 31st
in Piazza Oderisi at 5pm.
