Passignano sul Trasimeno (PG) - Passignano sul Trasimeno (Pg). Held each year, the Palio delle Barche contest among the eight districts of Passignano commemorates one of the last episodes to characterise the internal struggles of power in Perugia, when a small army in the service of the Oddi family was obliged to flee carrying their own boats from the combined militias of the Baglioni and the Della Corgna families.
Today's contest is divited into three steps, and involves around forty members from each rione, or district. First the teams must row their boats towards the shore, then they must run as fast as they can - carrying their boats - through the streets of the old town centre, then finally they must take up the oars and row again in the water.
From July 25th to 31st.
