Città della Pieve (PG) - From 12 to 25 August the City of Perugino is waiting for the 41st Terzieri. As every year the streets of the center of Città della Pieve will be animated with the historic Terzieri: will the ancient Castel della Pieve to make the enchanting frame of the famous bull hunting, re-enactment of some sort of bullfighting dates back to centuries. The celebrations for the Terzieri 2013 will start from Monday, August 12 and will continue until Sunday, 25. The public can attend the launch of the challenge on Thursday 15 in Piazza Plebiscito when at 17:30, the third castle, winner of the Palio, 2012, will deliver the Pallium to the Podestà for safekeeping until the day of Bull Hunting.
The historical roots of the Palio date back to the Late Middle Ages, when the Umbrian city, after a period of freedom under the protection of the Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, was again subdued by Perugia. Meanwhile, the village was already divided into three parts, namely the Terzieri, which still distinguish the beautiful Città della Pieve. The deep resentment towards the city of the Griffon, part of the Pope, it also denotes the shape of the city itself, modeled on the most powerful pro-imperial cities of central Italy, Siena. Not coincidentally, the town is in the shape of the eagle, the historic symbol of imperial power, which menacingly advancing towards Rome, the seat of papal power.
The three parts of the eagle coincide with the three neighborhoods, which in turn, refer to the three social classes: the head corresponds to the third castle, to want to be the class of the Knights, the aristocrats, who went to war in the horse's belly corresponds to Terziere Borgo Dentro, a portrait of the Bourgeoisie, the tail and the wing finally to Terziere Casalino, to symbolize the "class of pedestrians", consisting of urbanized peasants who went to war on foot with only the use of bow and crossbow .
The old bull hunting for 41 years is commemorated in the beautiful Terzieri: the archers of the three parties will compete in shooting arrows rotating shapes that reproduce the bulls of the Chianina breed. There are three rounds required to win the ordeal, three ones to be able to hit the bull, which turns on itself at three different speeds, there are three minutes left of the archers to center the shapes and win the coveted prize.
At the end of the third heat, the Terziere that obtains the highest score will win the Palio: the beautiful tapestry painted, made by the expert hand of the Master Pievesi Antonio Brown, depicts the archers that pay homage to the Master of the Field - judge of the race - before signal of the start of the competition.
The fascinating clash will be Sunday, August 25 with the traditional parade of the Procession Storicoper the medieval streets of Castel della Pieve decked with flags of the colors of Terzieri. A riot of music, drama and re-enactments between figures in ancient costumes wait for the participating audience, who can also enjoy the unique spectacle and conviviality protagonists of the characteristics Taverne, where you can taste the typical dishes of traditional cuisine from Umbria and Tuscany.
