Montone (PG) - Montone (Pg). This year's edition of the Evocation of the Donation of the Sacred Thorn pageant will take place from August 15th to 22nd. The ceremony is based on a recorded historical episode that took place in 1473 involving Carlo Fortebraccio, the son of Braccio da Montone, who whilst in the service of the Republic of Venice managed to defeat the Turkish navy and was rewarded with an important relic - a Thorn from the Crown of Christ. Carlo then donated it to the people of Montone. The Palio itself consists of a series of popular games, with each district vying for the coveted standard
