Commemorating St Veronica Giuliani in Città di Castello

Città di Castello (PG) - From July 6th to 12th Città di Castello will be holding its annual festivities in honour of St Veronica Giuliani, whose remains are beneath the high altar of the Capucin convent in Via XI Settembre.

The youngest of six sisters, Veronica Giuliani was born in 1660 in Mercatello. At the age of 17 she entered the closed convent of the Capucin Sisters of Claire in Città di Castello, where she remained for the rest of her life. Besides being granted a number of visions and tangible signs of holiness such as the stigmata, Veronica Giuliani left a detailed diary of her life in the form of 22,000 pages of her diary. She was proclaimed a saint in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI.
