The Fossilised Forest of Dunnarobba

Avigliano Umbro (TR) - Brought to light in the early 1970s, in an area that was being excavated as a clay quarry, the fossilised forest of Dunarobba was formed around two million years ago during the period known as the Pliocene. The area is open to the public and is equipped with a Centro di Paleontologia Vegetale, with qualified staff that will illustrate the history of this remarkable natural monument made up of over fifty trunks, still standing, which have been fossilised in a slow process of gradual sedimentation.
