Amelia (TR) - On November 24th Amelia will be celebrating the feast day of St Fermina, who is the town's patron saint alongside St Olimpiade. Both were early Christian martyrs. Fermina, who was the daughter of a Roman prefect, arrived in the vicinity of Amelia with the intention of converting the locals. When she refused to recant her faith, she was martyred alongside Olimpiade and both were buried in a wood near Luchiano in November of the year 304. Both bodies were subsequently exhumed and transported to the spot where the Cathedral of Amelia now stands.
