The tradition of Irish lace-making was imported to Lake Trasimene by the Marchesa Elena Guglielmi in the early 20th century, as part of a movement to revive Umbria's forgotten crafts that embraced a number of different sectors, from pottery to textiles and even furniture making. The Museo del Merletto is a permanent display and is housed in the Palazzo delle Opere Pie on the Isola Maggiore.
