Todi (PG) - The first round of the 2014 program Matavitatau an excursion historical and archaeological urban and peri-urban areas to discover the architectural evidence attesting to the value and the value of since the ancient city: the city walls, the "skin of the city" that has always has marked the limit.
The presence of the walls still affects the life of the city and yet in the past they have been designed with little enthusiasm, as if they were monuments of minor importance compared to the palaces of power, civil or religious. Recently, however, thanks to a careful analysis and transcription of the sources and thorough study, the Cultural Association Toward Sky has brought to light new elements and discoveries, particularly those concerning the history of the city walls of the medieval era. During the tour will be just one of the founding members of Toward Sky, the hiking guide Valerio Chiaraluce, to show the results of a 'survey interesting and full of surprises that will-among other things-to debunk a myth: Todi has not three circles of walls ... it has so many more!
The maximum program of the day is the following:
14.30 am in the Piazza del Popolo, at the arcades of municipal buildings
14.45 Hours urban trekking with stops at the most interesting and significant remnants of defensive walls of the city, particularly with regard to the Roman era. Looking at what remains of the walls - the outer husk of the city - we will try to understand how the urban core is born, developed and defended over the millennia, until today.
During the visit you will be able to preview the site of the nineteenth-century public niviera-who insists on buttresses of Roman-pending inauguration.
17.30 arriving at Porta Romana and the end of the excursion.
