Orvieto (TR) - On the centenary of the birth of an exhibition, recalls the figure of the archaeologist Mario Bizzarri (1914-1969).
On this occasion, began reprinting of his "Magic Etruria".
The collaboration with the Foundation for the "Museo Claudio Faina" began in 1957, the year of the establishment of the foundation itself, perculminare with the completion of excavations in the necropolis of Etruscan crucifix Tuff and with his appointment as curator of the museum itself. In those years, Gonzo
also reorganized the collection of the Archaeological Museum, then housed in the building of the Cathedral.
There are many interventions that Mario Gonzo made as an inspector of the Superintendent nell'orvietano: the excavations in the Necropolis of the Crucifix of Tufo, in the summers of 1960 and 1961, and later in those of 1963 and 1964 were the most striking together the discovery in 1965 of a section of terracing wall / fortification located along Via della Cava that has helped solve the vexed question of the recognition of ancient Orvieto Velzna; but one must not forget the feverish activity in the area, such as the tombs of Monte Cavallo, Tawny Poggio in Titignano, Monte Melonta at San Marino in San Venanzo and much more.
