Passignano sul Trasimeno (PG) - From 20 to 28 July 2013 at the Old Town will be held on regular appointment with the Palio of the Boats. In 1495, a small army of Siena and Perugia of Oddi family, hunted with blood from Passignano and Perugia 7 years before, occupied the castle, but the reaction of Perugia, led by Gianpaolo Baglioni was so violent that the invaders had to charge boats resting on his shoulder in front of houses of fishermen and across the lake, tried to find refuge islands, but did not succeed.
From that episode explains the current Palio of the Boats, a race highly spectacular and unique in its kind that takes place in three stages: the first and the third in the water, the second on the ground, boats on their shoulders along the streets of the historic center . The race, on the last Sunday of July, no less than 160 contestants divided into four districts: Historical Center, Center 2, Oliveto and San Donato, who took four fish as a symbol of the lake: Queen Carp, pike, Eel and Persian.
Inside the Palio is also performed by the "Race of Pitchers" reserved for women, they have to run in costume 800, with a pitcher of water on his head, the line that once ran from the public fountain at the castle gate, simulating a possible enemy attack.
