Palio dei Colombi 2013

Amelia (TR) - From 28 July to 11 August the medieval village hosts an event of great appeal, the Palio of Colombi, which is based on ancient Amerini Statutes of 1346. The most spectacular moment of the race is in a passionate battle between knights, horses and archers of the five districts of the city: Collis, Crux Burgi, Posterola, Plataea and Vallis.

Wearing traditional costumes medieval knights challenge each other, two at a time, in a wild horse race: galloping, must hit a target placed at the end of the journey. The crossbowmen, in turn, hurl an arrow at a target connected to a pigeon that, in the case of center, opens releasing a pigeon.
The parade, the arrival and the oath of the Podestà and the performance of the flag wavers are many moments of extraordinary charm.

For the duration of the event, in the taverns of each district, you can taste the traditional cuisine such as manfricoli, gnocchi and the various types of stuffed focaccia.
Each district for the duration of the festival, organizes the shows in the most characteristic corners of the old town.
