Celebrating St Michael in Fratta Todina

Fratta Todina (PG) - Fratta Todina (Pg). From May 6th to 9th the old town centre of Fratta will be agog with the celebrations in honour of the patron saint, St Michael the Archangel. Traditionally held around the annual feast day of St Michael, the celebration statutes were granted to the community of Fratta in 1600 by the Bishop of Todi Angelo Cesi.
In recent years the festivities have expanded to include a market fair of quality local craftwork and typical produce, in the hope of promoting the area’s many goods. The market fair has now reached its 9th edition and will run over the four days. Visitors in need of culinary respite will be able to stop in at the Taverna del Lupo for a taste of its 17th century recipes, all washed down by the excellent local wine. On May 9th the Castle of Fratta and Palazzo Altieri will be open to the public with guided tours, and in the afternoon a procession in period costume will parade through the streets of the old town centre in memory of the heroic military career of Braccio Fortebraccio da Montone. There will also be the 3rd edition of the Palio delle Torri, a kind of joust – in period costume – between the districts of Fratta Todina.
