Magione (PG) - In one of the oldest castles in the area of ​​Perugia, Montesperello, the local committee organizes on Sunday 28 July the festival dedicated to St. Christopher, the patron saint to whom the church is dedicated local. Throughout the day entertainment for young and old, flea market for charity.
The day's program opens at 10:30 am, with Holy Mass, the procession and blessing of motorists whose patron is St. Christopher.
At 13, picnic in the shade of the tower. At 17, with "Telling St. Christopher" will be remembered legends and stories related to the saint.
At 18, the historian John Riganelli will hold a conference on the theme "Montesperello: one of the oldest castles in the Perugia area." At 20 treasure hunt.
Some history: The church of S. Christopher, dependent on the monastery of St. Maria Farneta, in the Val di Chiana, was part, together with the whole community, the parish of St. John of Castelvieto and the inhabitants thereof were baptized, still at the beginning of the modern age, at the church of S. Mary of Monte Melino. Located outside the walls of the castle, the religious structure is rectangular with the bell outside the same and both were rebuilt in the eighteenth century. In this church you can admire three frescoes by Gerardo Doctors carried out in 1948-1949. It is a triptych dedicated to St. Christopher, which includes the conversion of the saint, the ferry of Jesus and the martyrdom of the saint. At the beginning of the '30s, instead of the sacristy was built a chapel dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, where is a cycle of three paintings on wood made recently by T. Todeschi; said Assisi cycle concerns over the centuries and the life of St. Francis.
