Perugia (PG) - The conference "Flora and vegetation of high altitude in the Peruvian Andes: an environment to be preserved" by Sergio Sgorbati will be held Thursday, May 8, at 17.30 in the Aula Magna of the Monumental Complex of St. Peter, Borgo XX Giugno, 74 .
The tropical Andes are considered an important hot spots of biodiversity with a high number of endemic plants, many of which are rare and endangered by human and climatic changes. Natural biodiversity is also a large agro-biodiversity, which extends along an impressive altitudinal gradient from lowland areas almost to the snowline (5000 m). It will describe the principal altoandini of Peru and their flora, with particular reference to Puya raimondii, tropical species particularly adapted to the environment of high altitude, characteristic of a unique ecosystem, worthy of preservation.
