Among the many events scheduled across Umbria as part of the Umbria Water Festival from May 17th to 20th, the WWF Alviano bird sanctuary has launched a photography competition. Entries can take as their subject matter both fauna from the Alviano sanctuary and from the whole of Italy. The submission deadline is April 15th. All entries will be put on display at the Alviano sanctuary on May 20th.

On May 20th Alviano will be holding its traditional celebrations to honour the feast day of St Isidore, the patron saint of farmers, with Holy Mass and a solemn procession through the city streets.

From May 18th to 27th the Medieval fortress of Alviano will be hosting a number of events devoted to evoking the Middle Ages and the figure of Bartolomeo d'Alviano. There will be guided tours of the fortress and in the evening the taverns in the old town centre will be open.

Sunday May 20th: from 5pm procession in period costume and Palio dei Somari, commemorating the magnanimity of Bartolomeo d'Alviano who donated homes and land to the peasantry.

On June 10th Alviano will be holding its traditional celebrations for the Feast of the Corpus Domini, which involve a procession through the streets strewn with elaborate designs all made using flower petals. From 10am to 3pm.
